Subspecialty teams provide surgeries in the areas of orthopedics, obstetric fistula, and hydrocephalus.

Nine out of 10 people in low- to middle-income countries lack access to surgical care. Sadly, an estimated one third of all deaths globally are attributed to conditions that could have been alleviated by surgical intervention. That death toll is more than from HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined.

World Medical Mission surgery subspecialty teams aim to provide both physical and spiritual healing through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Great Physician. In collaboration with partner mission hospitals, we offer life-transforming surgery in the areas of orthopedics (acute and chronic, trauma, and injury), obstetric fistula, and hydrocephalus.

…to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” Ephesians 4:12

Subspecialty teams are involved in:

Skill and Knowledge Transfer
Teams work in partnership with mission hospital staff to exchange knowledge and skill sets. Volunteers will impart expertise in their area of surgical subspecialty, and mission hospital staff will impart their expertise in performing surgery in an austere environment.
Donation of Medical Equipment
The surgery subspecialty team will leave medical equipment and/or supplies to support the new specialized surgical service of the mission hospital.
Expansion of Medical Network
New relationships will be established to support mission hospitals in the future. Ideally, subspecialty team members will be available for professional correspondence, consultation, and return visits if requested.
