A recent dam collapse has added to the hardships facing the resilient Ukrainian people. On June 6, the Kakhovka Dam caved in after a significant explosion, unleashing the waters of the nation’s largest reservoir on tens of thousands of people in southern Ukraine. Samaritan’s Purse quickly responded with critically needed relief for hundreds of families in the flood zone while also sharing the hope of Jesus Christ.

Three days after the collapse, Samaritan’s Purse airlifted 40,000 pounds of relief supplies aboard our DC-8 aircraft. Since then, we have been working alongside local ministry partners and churches to rescue more than 300 people from their flooded homes and distribute nearly 5,000 hot meals and 90,000 liters of potable water.

“The flooding was two and a half meters deep. Everything was destroyed inside my home,” one man said. “The food, water, everything Samaritan’s Purse supplied is amazing help because everything I had was destroyed.”

As part of our continued relief for the people of the Kherson region, Samaritan’s Purse is committed to providing 10 new potable water sources; we will drill wells and install reverse-osmosis systems. Samaritan’s Purse will also clean up and remediate 1,000 flood-affected homes.

Pray for the families impacted by this sudden and unexpected flood. Pray also for the Samaritan’s Purse team and local church partners as the need in Kherson is great.

Distributing Bibles to Weary Ukrainians

Samaritan’s Purse has been at work in Ukraine since the war started well more than a year ago. By setting up emergency field hospitals, distributing food, providing drinkable water, and more, God has used Samaritan’s Purse to help the Ukrainian people during this time of crisis. Among our many efforts in partnership with local churches, we are also handing out thousands of Bibles in the Ukrainian language.

While physical aid may bring temporary hope, the Word of God provides eternal hope.

“Everything that we do at Samaritan’s Purse is about the Gospel and making the Name of Jesus Christ known throughout the world,” said Neyer Corredor, a Samaritan’s Purse worker in Ukraine. “These Bibles are reminding the Ukrainian people that God loves them, that He hasn’t forgotten about them, and He’s walking with them through these difficult times.”

Please pray that the Gospel of Jesus Christ would flourish in Ukraine through the distribution of God’s Word.

Responding to the Crisis in Ukraine Samaritan's Purse is providing food, water, and non-food items, such as wood stoves, solar lights, and construction materials, to suffering families in Ukraine. In partnership with local churches and ministry partners, we are bringing this urgently needed relief to those in areas deeply affected by the conflict. We are also airlifting medical supplies into the country and providing medical training as fighting rages on. Since the start of the war, we have operated two field hospitals and other medical clinics.
